Natale in cucina: dolci e magia con i bambini

Christmas in the kitchen: sweets and magic with the kids

The Christmas holidays are a triumph of lights, colors, and scents. But there is another magic that lingers during these days: that of sweets. And what better way to share this magic with your children than by involving them in the preparation?

Preparing Christmas sweets together with children is an unforgettable experience, an opportunity to create special memories and share moments of joy. The smell of sugar and vanilla filling the kitchen, the laughter while kneading the ingredients, the satisfaction of seeing the fruit of one's work: all of this contributes to creating a unique and special atmosphere.

Here are two simple and fun ideas to involve your little pastry chefs:

Christmas Cookies: An explosion of imagination

Kneading, shaping, decorating: Christmas cookies are a creative and fun activity for children. Let their imagination run wild by creating different shapes, stars, Christmas trees, reindeer, and even Santa Claus!

Ingredients:

  • flour
  • butter
  • sugar
  • plenty of colorful decorations!

Let your little ones have fun decorating the cookies with icing, sprinkles, colored sugar crystals, and whatever their imagination suggests.

Filled Chocolates: an explosion of taste

Ingredients:

  • chocolate bars
  • fillings of your choice (nuts, candies, dried fruit, hazelnut spread, crumbled cookies).

Melt the chocolate in a double boiler and let the children pour the mixture into the molds. Then, let them choose the fillings they prefer and add them to the chocolate.

Gingerbread Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 100 g soft butter
  • 100 g light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • Royal icing (optional).

In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt. In another bowl, beat the butter with the brown sugar until fluffy, then add the egg and maple syrup, beating again. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a smooth dough is formed. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 180°C, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of about 5 mm, use Christmas cookie cutters to cut the cookies, arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let the cookies cool on a wire rack before decorating them with royal icing, if desired.

Panna Cotta Stars

Ingredients:

  • 250 ml fresh cream
  • 250 ml whole milk
  • 50 g granulated sugar
  • 5 g gelatin sheets
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • Red food coloring (optional)
  • Sugar sprinkles or colored vermicelli (optional)

Soak the gelatin in cold water for 10 minutes, then heat the cream, milk, and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat, adding the scraped vanilla seeds. Dissolve the squeezed-out gelatin in the hot milk, remove from heat and let cool slightly, optionally adding a couple of drops of red food coloring for pink panna cotta. Pour the panna cotta into star-shaped molds and place in the fridge for at least 3 hours. Before serving, decorate the stars with sugar sprinkles or colored vermicelli.

Why prepare Christmas sweets with children

Beyond the fun, preparing Christmas sweets together with children offers numerous benefits:

- Develops creativity and manual skills: Kneading, shaping, and decorating are all activities that stimulate children's creativity and manual dexterity.

- Teaches patience and care: the preparation of sweets requires time and attention. Children learn to follow instructions, measure ingredients, and work with care.

  • - Promotes collaboration: the preparation of sweets is an activity that takes place as a family, a moment of sharing and collaboration.

This Christmas, give your children a special experience: create magical treats together, full of taste and joy!
